Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2023-12-01T08:48Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2023-12-01T08:48:00-IPS-001 (version 5)
Quality of ICME Signature: 2 (clear signatures)
Note: Arrival signature characterized by sudden amplification of already elevated magnetic field from 15 to 28nT, followed by several hours of negative Bz as low as -28nT. Accompanied by a jump in solar wind speed from 450 to 500 km/s and eventually 550 km/s, and by a steep increase in ion density to over 50 particles/cc. The pileup is followed after 2023-12-01T20Z by the arrival of magnetic cloud characterized by smooth rotation of field components and an initial period of several hours of negative Bz.
